Even though we use Google reCAPTCHA and have account activation set to "By Admin" we still get some (a couple a day) obvious spammers creating accounts. It seems to me they aren't getting any benefit from doing this. Their accounts are deleted before ever being activated, yet they still create accounts. Am I missing something? What is in it for them to create these accounts?
It seems a real person must be creating the accounts because of the reCAPTCHA. We have a high "Fail" rate on this reCAPTCHA according to Google.
We're running phpbb 3.0.14 (I know it's old...). Is there some other benefit or angle these spammers are going for that I'm not thinking about? You can see our forum here.
