Hello SSI,
I understand your confusion. I did not itemize step by step my actions taken in order to upgrade from 3.2.5 to 3.3.11. I followed the recommended guidelines given with the 3.3.11 download instructions. Before all this started I had made a backup of the database and the phpBB3 folder. I used those original unaltered database and phpBB3 backups.
In a nut shell I:
1. I had already made a backup of the database and phpBB3 and saved them on my PC prior to any troubleshooting. I renamed the phpBB3 folder on the server to a new name. Then created a empty folder named phpBB3 and uploaded the backup phpBB3 folders and files from my PC to it.
2. Replied to a post on one of the topics on the board.
3. Created a new fresh database in phpMyAdmin.
4. I used that database backup in step 1 above to populate the database created in phpMyAdmin, see step 3 above. I used bigdump.php to install the database.
5. Disabled all extensions and removed those not supported by 3.3.11. And, deleted all Styles except Prosilver.
6. Deleted all the folders and files on the server per recommendations.
7. Deleted all the folders and files form the unzipped phpBB folder per recommendations.
8. Uploaded the unzipped folders remaining to the phpBB3 folder on the server.
9. Verified the .htaccess file contained the correct information.
10. Verified the config.php file contained all of the correct information.
11. Changed the php version level on the host server from 5.4 to 7.2.
12. Accessed the install folder on the server and performed the recommended steps to upgrade the database.
13. Entered the URL of the board and the board was present.
12. Logged in and selected ACP and logged in to it.
13. Selected tab System and verified on the Version screen, it is running on 3.3.11
14. Entered the board Index and selected the topic where I had made a post, see step 2 above. I verified the post I had entered was not there. This is because the post I entered was not present when I made the backup. It was only after the backup was made that I created the post. This confirms I am using the upgraded database.
15. In ACP selected the Customize tab and selected Manage extensions. I enabled extensions.
16. Selected Board Index and verified the Header Banner was now displaying.
From here I began to review the inconsistencies found in the 3.2.5 versions. Then created my post giving an update.
So... what do you think, all of the corruption I had found in 3.2.5 is still present on the 3.3.11 version. The only commonalities between the two versions are the folders and files the recommendations instruct not to delete on the server when upgrading. And, the database.
Yours,
John
