OK, I'm getting that displaying the in-line content that I want isn't going to happen. The PDF link, at least, seams to work OK in that most browsers seem to open and display pdf content within the browser rather than requiring a native app to open, so it's fairly seamless from the user perspective. I haven't tried anything else yet, but I'm presuming a spreadsheet, for example, will take another step for the user to view... download, then open app.
But: "I'm still wondering what the "special category" drop down is for." Sorry to harp on this, but phpBB has lots of features that, while the average user doesn't need them, they are there if you need them later on. This one appears to have no function... the vestige of some idea that never when anywhere and that I should just ignore. Am I right or wrong?
