As a C programmer since 1986 ... and a web designer since 1995
Then I'm surprised how you can mistake an input textbox from a listbox, since the former (even in your web browser) neither has an arrow/button to open any list, nor opens the list automatically, while the latter always have and the list must be opened manually (in Windows you can use F4 for this - another indicator to distinguish them). Go check again in your web browser. That was this way in 1986 in all GUIs, and it still is this way in 2024 - and you should have experienced the difference between list entries, coming from the program/application and an auto suggestion feature, mostly coming from the hosting parent (which is the operating system or web browser).

HTML wise you can add the attribute autocomplete= which instructs the web browser to partly or fully turn off caching for suggesting entries which your earlier typed in. This is indeed a security concern, but only if you're not the only one who's accessing the web browser of interest (f.e. computers in school rooms, libraries, internet cafés...), or in long terms if others gain access to your web browser (f.e. thieves, police...). But then again you must have came across settings to turn that off, too - when using software and being concerned about security you shouldn't leave it not having inspected all the dialogs for settings and options it offers. If you haven't done so yet, you may also have a setting active to auto-fill previously entered address details, which is more dangerous since this can actively be captured by evil websites.
