No response at all. Hmm. But now I can answer myself, as my obervation has changed: The problem is gone.
What changed? Nothing. Or lots - whichever way you want to look at it.
So I have a script that can create a test setup from scratch. I used that repeatedly and every time I hit the above limitation, and I did not know what to do. So I ignored the problem for some time, even deleted the VM showing the problem. After all it could be recreated anytime.
Now that phpBB 3.3.12 is released I ran the abovementioned script again. The script itself has not changed, so I'd expect the same problem to show up. But to my surprise this works like a charm! My procedure has not changed though. So what has?
In the meantime Debian released updates. And phpBB released a new version. Not having looked at all the changes in detail, this can mean lots and likely includes the effect that I had a problem before and do not have it now.
What makes me a bit sad though is that we still do not know what actually went wrong before and have no hints what to investigate. Well, hopefully my problem has gone for nothing.![:-)]( "Smile")
